Portland, OR, Sept. 16, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Hedy AI today announced that Hedy, its cross-platform AI meeting assistant, now supports Apple Private Cloud Compute as a user-selectable AI processing option on iPhone and iPad running iOS 27. The option lets users choose Apple’s server model for session summaries, notes, chat, and live suggestions. The addition follows Apple’s release of iOS 27 on September 14, which opened Private Cloud Compute to third-party applications for the first time since the system launched in 2024.

Apple Private Cloud Compute selected under Settings > Speech & AI > AI Processing in Hedy 3.11 for iPhone and iPad, alongside Cloud AI, Local AI, and Off.
Private Cloud Compute is the server-side extension of Apple Intelligence, running on Apple silicon hardware for requests too large to process on the device itself. Apple states that data sent to it is used only to fulfill the request, is not retained once the request completes, and is not accessible to Apple. Apple publishes the server software builds for inspection and includes them in the Apple Security Bounty program, so independent security researchers can examine those claims directly. Until iOS 27, the system ran only Apple’s own features.
With the update, Hedy users on an eligible device can select Apple Private Cloud Compute in Settings to have session summaries, detailed notes, chat, and live suggestions generated by Apple’s server model instead of by Hedy’s AI partners. Speech recognition is unaffected and continues to run on whichever engine the user has selected.
Four AI processing options, selected by the user
The addition gives Hedy four user-selectable AI processing options. Local AI runs the analysis entirely on the user’s own device, including offline. Cloud AI is processed by Hedy’s AI partners inside a data region the user selects; those partners do not store session information or use it to train models. Apple Private Cloud Compute is processed on Apple’s infrastructure under the user’s own Apple ID. Off keeps transcription running while pausing AI analysis. These options govern the AI step only; Cloud Sync, sharing, and speech recognition follow their separate settings.
Apple does not publish a data-residency commitment for Private Cloud Compute. Hedy discloses this in the app before the option takes effect, and users with regional processing requirements can continue to use Cloud AI with an EU region or Local AI.
A record of keeping data on the user’s side
Apple Private Cloud Compute is the latest in a series of options Hedy has added that keep conversation data under the user’s control rather than the company’s. Hedy transcribes on-device by default, and conversation audio never reaches Hedy’s servers. Local AI Processing, released in Hedy 3.2 in May 2026, moves the entire analysis pipeline onto the user’s own hardware and runs offline. Users who choose to save audio can sync it to their own iCloud account rather than to Hedy. Customers who select an EU data region have storage and AI processing kept there. Apple Private Cloud Compute adds a fourth arrangement, in which the request runs under the user’s own Apple ID and against that user’s own daily limit.
Availability and requirements
Apple Private Cloud Compute is available in Hedy 3.11 on iPhone and iPad running iOS 27, on devices eligible for Apple Intelligence and with Apple Intelligence enabled. The option is hidden on devices that do not qualify, and is not available on macOS, Windows, Android, or the web app, where Local AI, Cloud AI, and Off remain available. Apple sets a daily usage limit that counts against the user’s own iCloud account rather than the developer’s.
Hedy is free to use with 300 minutes per month. Hedy Pro is $12.99 per month or $99.99 per year, and a one-time lifetime license is $299.
“Where your conversation gets processed should be your call, not something you find out from a privacy policy,” said Julian Pscheid, founder of Hedy AI LLC. “Some of our users are bound by a company policy, some by a regulator, and some simply have a preference. Making it a setting is the only honest way to serve all three, and it is the part of Hedy I care most about getting right.”
“What Apple built here is unusual and worth taking seriously,” Pscheid said. “Publishing the server builds and inviting researchers to check them is a stronger position than a privacy policy can offer. It does not replace running the model on your own device, and it does not solve data residency, but it is a real option that did not exist for third-party apps two weeks ago.”
