NEW YORK , NY, UNITED STATES, August 25, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Theatre Within, the non-profit behind the Annual John Lennon Tribute charity concert since 1981, will honor Rock & Roll Hall of Famer Cyndi Lauper with the 2026 John Lennon Real Love Award at its 46th Annual John Lennon Tribute – Saturday, November 21 at the historic Town Hall in NYC. Tickets are available at LennonTribute.org. The full lineup of artists will be announced in the coming weeks.
Lauper, a trailblazing singer-songwriter and social activist, will take the stage to perform a special set of her favorite John Lennon and Beatles classics. She joins a prestigious lineage of previous John Lennon Real Love Award honorees, including Judy Collins, Kenny Loggins, Graham Nash, Natalie Merchant, and Patti Smith.
“I’m honored to receive this year’s John Lennon Real Love Award,” said Cyndi Lauper. “John inspired and challenged us all to work towards making the world a better place for everyone. His message of love continues to ripple through time, and I am grateful to help celebrate his life, Theatre Within, and the John Lennon Real Love Project.”
In a statement, Sean Ono Lennon expressed gratitude for the ongoing tradition: “It’s beautiful that Theatre Within continues to celebrate my father in New York City and is honoring Cyndi Lauper with this year’s John Lennon Real Love Award. Through her art and activism, Cyndi has been a positive force for a very long time. It’s also deeply meaningful to me and my mom that Tribute proceeds help bring the John Lennon Real Love Project to the cancer community and public schools.”
“Cyndi Lauper is an absolute force of nature whose creative brilliance is matched only by her tireless activism,” said Theatre Within Artistic Director and Tribute host, Joe Raiola. “From her trailblazing work co-founding True Colors United to protect LGBTQ+ youth to establishing the Girls Just Want to Have Fundamental Rights Fund, Cyndi, in the tradition of John and Yoko, consistently uses her voice to fight for equality and social justice. We are thrilled to celebrate her extraordinary impact!”
Transforming Lives Through Music and Creativity
All proceeds from the Tribute will benefit Theatre Within’s ongoing free programs in creative expression and mindfulness for communities in need. This includes the John Lennon Real Love Project songwriting workshops, which serve public elementary schools and families impacted by cancer.
Now entering its second decade serving the cancer community, Theatre Within provides more than 200 free workshops annually in songwriting, the visual arts, and meditation. Through its public school music program, students are given the rare opportunity to write new lyrics to “Real Love” and record their version accompanied by John Lennon’s original vocal and piano tracks.
Produced in association with Music Without Borders, Theatre Within’s Annual John Lennon Tribute remains the only John Lennon tribute concert in the world sanctioned by Yoko Ono and Sean Ono Lennon.
