Phoenix writer selected from more than 20,000 entries; company opens its fourth robot giveaway
MOUNTAIN VIEW, CA, UNITED STATES, October 29, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Toborlife AI, the developer of the Tobor Harness™ applications and the official #1 U.S. partner of Unitree Robotics, announced during a live drawing at Odoo 2026 that John Olivera of Phoenix, Arizona, has won the first Great Robot Giveaway for a Unitree RI Humanoid Robot, valued at $8,990. The sweepstakes drew more than 20,000 entries and is believed to be the first humanoid robot giveaway awarded through a public sweepstakes in the United States.
The R1 is the most accessible humanoid in Toborlife AI’s lineup and a growing part of its business. Toborlife AI sells the full R1 family in the U.S. with free shipping and delivery, financing options, a showroom in Mountain View, and direct support from its U.S.-based engineers and developers.
Meet the Winner: John Olivera
Jonathan Olvera is a writer and storyteller based in Phoenix, Arizona, with a background in literature and journalism. He came across the Great Robot Giveaway while researching humanoid robots and figured it wouldn’t hurt to enter, but he never expected to win.
“When I was first contacted about winning, I almost couldn’t believe it,” said Olvera. “I am looking forward to experimenting with it and seeing if I can teach it some basic home chores. I might even use it as inspiration to write more science fiction short stories.”
Ahead of delivery, Olvera has been watching videos on how to operate the R1 so he can hit the ground running, and he plans to record video content to share his journey with others.
An Entry-Level Humanoid Built to Get Teams Started
The R1 is well suited to entertainment, trade shows, events and brand activations, and it gives schools, labs and startups an affordable entry point into humanoid robotics for introductory education and research. Over-the-air updates deliver ongoing improvements after purchase, and owners can customize the robot’s exterior finish.
The R1 is designed to be light, durable and quick to deploy with minimal maintenance. It offers 24 degrees of freedom, including a two-axis head for sharper awareness of its surroundings, humanoid binocular cameras, and a four-microphone array and speaker among other features.
“The R1 changes who gets to own a humanoid robot,” said David Schulhof, CEO and Founder of Toborlife AI. “At under $9,000, it puts a real humanoid within reach of a school, a startup, an events team or a curious individual like Jonathan. Every R1 we sell comes with access to U.S.-based Toborlife AI engineers, so owners can start using it right away and grow into more advanced work. More than 20,000 people raised their hands for a chance to own one. That tells us demand for humanoid robots is already here.”
Fourth Great Robot Giveaway Now Open
Toborlife AI has also launched its fourth robot giveaway. This round’s prize is a Unitree Go2 Pro™, which Toborlife AI sells as the Homedog, a household quadruped robot at selling for $3,790. The entry period is now open through 11:59:59 p.m. PST on March 30, 2027.
