The Bumboat, Reimagined for Private Dining and Events: Pyxis Launches Solar-Assisted Pyxis L for Singapore River Cruise

Singapore, SINGAPORE, Sept. 04, 2026 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) — Pyxis and Singapore River Cruise (SRC) today launched Pyxis L, a new passenger vessel that reimagines the traditional bumboat as a venue for private dining, celebrations and events along the Singapore River. Pyxis L pairs a fully air-conditioned, hospitality-led, comfort-first interior with rooftop solar panels that reduce reliance on shore power and can even feed surplus energy back into the grid.

Pyxis L was unveiled at a launch event at Boat Quay officiated by Guest-of-Honour Mr Ang Wee Keong, Chief Executive of the Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore, alongside Pyxis Founder Tommy Phun and Mr Png Yiow Beng, Managing Director of Singapore River Cruise.

A river bumboat built for hosting

What sets Pyxis L apart is what’s on board. Its fully air-conditioned interior has been designed as a proper hospitality space rather than a simple passenger cabin. It features a bespoke, elevated setting built for private dining, events and curated river journeys, with room for 24 guests indoors and 12 more outdoors. 

Pyxis L can travel for up to 8.5 hours between charges – long enough for an evening of dining, a celebration or a slow, scenic loop past the river’s shophouses and bridges.

Solar power that works while you cruise

Ten solar panels built into the roof generate close to 5.8 kW of power during the day, reducing how often and how much Pyxis L needs to draw from shore power. Any surplus the panels generate can be exported back to the grid, turning the vessel’s downtime into a small source of clean energy rather than idle capacity.

When it does need a full charge, Pyxis L draws on 10 kW shore charging, taking about six to seven hours, faster still when solar charging runs alongside it. Behind the scenes, operators keep watch over the vessel through Electra, Pyxis’s digital platform for remote monitoring, tracking its systems in real time to keep the ride smooth and the vessel running reliably day after day.

Built in Singapore, for the Singapore River

Built in Singapore, Pyxis L is the newest addition to Pyxis’s electric vessel line-up, built on the same catamaran hull form, core electric propulsion, battery and digital systems platform, adapted for the first time, into a purpose-built hospitality experience.

Part of a longer track record

Pyxis L follows a string of firsts for the Singapore-based maritime electrification start-up, which launched in 2022. In March 2024, Pyxis unveiled X Tron, Singapore’s first fully electric port passenger launch, and later that year opened the first public marine electric charging point at Marina South Pier with SP Group. In 2025, it introduced Pyxis R, Singapore’s first solar-powered river boat, before taking that same platform into its first dedicated hospitality experience with Pyxis L.

A new way to experience the river

Developed for SRC, Pyxis L will be used for private events, celebrations and curated dining experiences on the Singapore River – occasions where the boat itself has always been as much a part of the story as the destination.

SRC has confirmed an order for a second Pyxis L from Pyxis, building on the launch of the first vessel and expanding the new river cruise offering within its fleet.
